Dear Community,
As we witness the policy agenda of our new US government this past week, many of us are experiencing big feelings of overwhelm, fear, anger, despair, numbness, disconnection from our bodies or our life, and disorientation.
There’s no right way to be in this moment. If you can, remember the ways you access support in the world. Can you plug into something bigger than yourself and ground? Maybe that is community, whether it be human, other-than-human, stone or plant kin. Maybe it is God/the Divine, well and bright ancestors, or your own eternal Spirit. Maybe it is the ever-present and abundant Earth holding you up and Sun warming your face. Whatever community you root into, remember that you are more than a single individual—you are multitudes and the resources are deep.
And remember that we at Zócalo are here for you. The word for this year is community and we have this forefront in our minds. We continue to hold healing space according to our guiding values of:
Community
Equity
Diversity
Empowerment and Liberation
Interdependence
Iteration and Evolution
Creativity
and Abundance
And we will continue to live into these values in the coming years, fighting for our right to healthcare, and continuing to hold loving space for those targeted most, including:
Our trans and gender expansive siblings
Immigrant community members, especially those living undocumented
Folks whose healthcare depends on government programs, including Medicare, Medicaid, and Veteran’s benefits
Black, Indigenous, other People of Color, and those of the Global Majority
Women, femmes, and Queer folks
Community members who are disabled, chronically ill, and medically vulnerable
So, continue to care for yourself and others, feel your feelings, and give your body, mind and spirt some space to regulate and integrate, process and come clear. And join our newsletter as we work to stay up-to-date on healthcare and mobilize as a community.
We’re still here, and we’re not going anywhere.
With love and care,
Adrianna
